The Island Of The Maremmas, Middle Island, Warrnambool 

Near my home is an coastal island that has a unique story. It is home to a group of little penguins, who were going missing, and it was discovered they were being attacked by rogue foxes who would cross the water at low tide. A local farmer had a special dog that he had trained to look after his chickens for the same reason (if you've seen the movie Oddball you will know the story!). Local conversationists decided to trial it, and had the farmer train some special Maremma dogs to look after the penguins. The Maremmas now guard the penguins from their home on top of the island where you can sometimes see them walking around.
